I started studying my IAB qualifications with no experience whatsoever , I put time and effort in and managed to complete all 3 levels in 6 months. Thanks to my tutor Brian Harford, from Woodgrove Tutorials, who was always on hand to help answer any queries I had , he got back to me quickly , with easy to understand answers. I managed to get a job in a local accountancy practice because of what I have learned through studying it made my job so much easier, it gave me fantastic technical knowledge . I have the freedom to also work freelance if I wish to. Gaining these qualification has given me the confidence to further my career , I’m currently in the process of starting my ACCA qualification. This time last year I never imagined I would have the job I have now . Thank you Brian for all your help.

Studying on a distance learning course is a really flexible way of tailoring your studies around your work and home life. For this reason distance learning really appealed to me. I have a busy life and trying to commit to a set day or evening every week was difficult for me. I was able to study when and where I wanted and also being able to control how quickly I could complete the course was so helpful. I was always confident I was on top of my studies; if I was busy one week and didn’t do any studying I knew I wouldn’t fall behind as I was in control of my own work plan. I was able to complete the level 2 course very quickly, as I didn’t have to wait for other colleagues to catch-up which is the case if you enrol on a night class; so this is one of the definite benefits of distance learning. Also being able to get in touch with my tutor by email or telephone to talk through any difficulties or questions provided me with additional support so I never felt on my own. The tutor support from Di at Goldings was first class and she was always at the other end of an email or telephone when I needed some guidance, even on a Sunday! My queries were always answered promptly so I was able to move on with my studies at a quick pace and I never had to wait long for a response. Feedback from my assessments was helpful and Di also gave me a full answer to illustrate where I had gone wrong which helped me understand the knowledge units more fully. Di also provides additional notes to be used alongside the IAB course book which further explained each lesson in more detail and I found these notes very helpful and simple to understand.

The IAB course has given me a passion for bookkeeping and now I have an internationally recognised qualification to help me build my career. The course motivated me to learn more about how businesses work and has made me realise how in-demand bookkeeping is – I know my skills will always be needed. With distance learning you can work at your own pace around your commitments. This was great for me plus, I get the one-to-one support I need from professional tutors.

Qualifications matter a huge deal – most jobs require some kind of training and having an IAB qualification really opens doors.

There are several things I like about being a member of the IAB, but I think the most important one to me personally is that the organisation is about people. Helping people, training people and encouraging people to be great bookkeepers. I’m certain my business wouldn’t have survived it’s first year without their guidance and reassurance.

I found that studying through distance learning was excellent – there is a lot to learn, but the courses are well structured and make sense, the self test assessments are good for reinforcing what I had learned, and the workbooks are comprehensive and explain things well. The support I got from Di Garbera at Golding Computer Services was great – she is always happy to help and I never felt “stuck”. All in all a great start to my bookkeeping learning journey!

I would like to take this opportunity of thanking you for all your help and advice when I recently joined the International Association of Bookkeepers. Distance learning was the perfect solution for me as i was able to fit it in around my full time job and enabled me to work from home when it suited me. The distance learning option meant I could work to my own time schedule and I was under no pressure to meet a deadline as I booked the exam when I wanted and fealt ready. I am an Associate Professor in Accounting, Analysis, and Auditing of Moscow State University and have been since 1992. I have over 30 years experience developing materials for and teaching of economic informatics, accounting and auditing, analysis of business activities and have conducted and participated in consulting teachers and practical accountants, auditors, financial managers. I work in the Management Faculty in the International University in Moscow, campus “Kuntsevo”, and I am qualified as a Certified Accountant since 1998 and a Fellow of the International Association of Book-keepers.
